23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
“Love is the fulfillment of the law.” On those days when the road ahead seems chock full of bewildering choices, none of which seem particularly good, take Paul’s words to heart. Catholic theology and belief can seem bewilderingly complex and yet discipleship is really quite simple. In any situation I find myself, among the choices open to me – what is the most loving thing I can do? St. Augustine took Paul’s thought and phrased it another way: “Love, and do as you will.”
I can’t imagine that, on Judgment Day, Jesus will have any interest in how much money we made or how many people we friended on facebook or what level of material success we achieved during our earthly pilgrimage. But he might have one question (of course, he’ll already know the answer!) – How well did you Love?
