Do you know why St. Joseph of Cupertino is the patron saint of airplane pilots?
According to the story I’ve heard, Joseph was a most devout monk who entered so deeply into meditation and contemplation during prayer that his body as well as his mind entered into the spiritual realm. His brother monks would sometimes see him floating within the chapel – there’s the pilots connection for you – and would watch in fascination.
Joseph, being a humble man, didn’t like the special attention. So, the moment he became aware that he was being watched, he would float back down again.
Isn’t that a great story? Have you met any Catholic characters lately?
